Day 6 Kickstart Your Art!~Use a Book or Magazine Page

Day 6 of Kickstart Your Art!

I am playing along with the 7 day challenge from Smeared and Smudged, Kickstart Your Art. The Challenge is to make an art journal page a day for seven days. One each day following the daily prompt.

Today's prompt is use a book page or magazine page! You can join the Facebook Group to check it all out, HERE

Here is my page, you are most welcome to click the image to see it bigger:)

I used digital papers by Smeared Ink and assorted die cuts. The papers I used can be found HERE and I must say they are so awesome! I merged two papers inside Photoshop Elements and adjusted the layers. The background stamps are mostly Tim Holtz using archival ink.

I colored some book pages with Dylusions Spray ink. Once dry, die cut them and made flowers.

One more day to go!

Day 5~Kickstart Your Art~Use An Organic Medium~Smeared and Smudged January 2015 Challenge

Day 5 of Kickstart Your Art!

I am playing along with the 7 day challenge from Smeared and Smudged, Kickstart Your Art. The Challenge is to make an art journal page a day for seven days. One each day following the daily prompt.

Today's prompt is Use An Organic Medium! You can join the Facebook Group to check it all out, HERE

Definitely challenging....coffee, tea...what to use?

I won't say fail.......

Well, I will say my page did not end up being as finished as I had hoped. But, there are no failures in crafting or creating. It is a play and a chance to try something new.

Click each image to make it bigger, so many things to see, not hiding!

I started with a base of cheap white acrylic paint to brighten the darker paper base. On top of that I added some paper I had stamped with Distress Paint using the base of a celery bunch. LOVE the rosettes it makes :)

I edged the torn paper sections with Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink. I attached these pieces using gloss medium. The background was too bright so I painted over parts lightly with Antique Linen Distress Paint.

Now the fun.

I bought this Liquitex Blended Fibers Texture Gel awhile ago on clearance for super cheap. No clue what to do with it....soooooo I pulled out my sugar skull stencil. I wanted to try to apply the gel on top of the stencil then use spices and herbs for the obvious organic matter to create the image.

Did not go as well as I had hoped, the stencil was too intricate. The ground stuff was not fine enough.
Enough of the oregano stuck to leave the edges. The face was yuk!

I stenciled with the same gel onto a clean sheet of paper. Leaving stencil in place I sprinkled Mrs. Dash(Fiesta Lime)herb seasoning on top.  I pulled away the stencil. A bit better, some stuck.

The finer parts of the stencil were still blank, though the gel was there.  I let it dry.

Then brewed some extra strong Cranberry Pomegranate Green Tea. The extra white paper had to go! I liked this tea because of the deep red color. I wanted to add that color to the new image.

Well for whatever reason it went bluish, LOL.  But it made a really cool resist!

I trimmed and attached. Way to much explaining!

Definitely something I will come back to, after all for me, the art journal is a place to play and experiment.

I could not waste the tea I brewed so I soaked some sheet of deli wrap paper too. Adding to my paper stash!

Thanks so much for staying with me here!

Hope you did not get too lost and confused along this page!

Please let me know what you think, I almost did not publish this at all...

Have a super day!

Day 4~Kickstart Your Art~Doodle Day!

Day 4 of Kickstart Your Art!

I am playing along with the 7 day challenge from Smeared and Smudged, Kickstart Your Art. The Challenge is to make an art journal page a day for seven days. One each day following the daily prompt.

Today's prompt is DOODLE DAY! You can join the Facebook Group to check it all out, HERE

Click each image to make it bigger, so many things to see!

So fun! Love this theme this day and love my favorite Grumpie all doodlefied!

I added the smooth panel into my journal for this page. I wanted a smooth surface instead of so wrinkled but wanted to keep this whole project in one place. I wrapped foil over the completed pages so the layers of paint and ink would not spoil the others.  That is the super shiny layer you see underneath :)

Grumpie is printed on marker paper and doodled with my PITT pen. This was a fun play and as with most projects I run from the prompt with no real direction of what I want to do, it is always fun to see where it goes!

Get your Grumpie HERE at Smeared Ink:)

Happy Day!

Day 2~Kickstart Your Art~Smeared and Smudged Challenge

Tuesday's second treat!

Just finished my art journal page! I am playing along with the 7 day challenge from Smeared and Smudged, Kickstart Your Art. The Challenge is to make an art journal page a day for seven days. One each day following the daily prompt.

Today's prompt is use lyrics from a favorite song or poem! You can join the Facebook Group to check it all out, HERE

Here we go! I hope you have fun and play along this week!

A song almost always stuck in my head as of late is "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey. Yes I know it is cliche, but I love it, it works best LOUD and late at night driving in the rain....
I have loved this song since I was much much younger, still do :)

And yes I will admit I am on a Glee kick right now and the song was featured on Season 1, thank goodness or thank the evilness that is Netflix, binge watching is ........ insanely fun.

Click to see bigger, just looks too small here hehe.

The chorus is a mantra on this journey anyways, "Don't stop believin'......hold onto that feeling...."

Have a good night(or day) and stop to play in the rain.

*hugs*

Day 1~Kickstart Your Art~Smeared and Smudged Challenge

Happy Monday!

As this day winds down here I finally finished my art journal page! I am playing along with the 7 day challenge from Smeared and Smudged, Kickstart Your Art. The Challenge is to make an art journal page a day for seven days. One each day following the daily prompt.

Today's prompt is Lots of Layers! You can join the Facebook Group to check it all out, HERE

Here we go! I hope you have fun and play along this week!

Click each photo to make it grow up :)

I made my journal. Each page is just about 8.5 inches by 10.5 inches. It is made from paper grocery bags: cheap simple wonderful substrate.

Layers.....the base was covered with homemade gesso. While the gesso was wet I applied the skulls image on the right, it is a Halloween napkin. I just pressed it into the gesso.  I helped it dry with my embossing gun, it is wet and cold here today so I was too impatient to let it air dry.

Next I applied Distress Paints in several colors, sprayed with water. The held it up to let all the paint run. I really liked as the paint hit the napkin it soaked in an made a nice effect.

On top of the Distress Paint is sprayed some ink spray and splattered some more paint on it.

Added some hearts paper tape under the Teri Sherman/Smeared Ink Skull with bow digital stamp.

I did some random stamping with paint. I made the sentiment page with one of my favorite Tim Holtz stamps and used Distress Inks, Black Soot and Vintage Photo on the edges.

In case you are interested this is the backside of the page, there is minimal bleed-through. I think the gesso helps stop that. I love the wrinkly texture. After I cut up the bags I got them wet. Then after they air dried I ironed them. The idea for this journal came from this wonderful blog HERE by Judy Wise.

My journal is naked, it has no covers. I will get to it....... :)

Now, as it says, "Live the live you've imagined"

Go play and get inky and painty.

This was a super fun day! LOVE this play:)

The mermaid is colored using Sharpie Markers and Bic Mark It markers. The background was colored with Dylusions Spray Inks.

The blue and green raised dots are melted pony beads from a friend:)

I doodled a bit on the bubble flowers with a white Gelly Roll pen.

Have a great day!

Art Journal Page~Simply Betty Stamps~Rio and her Penguin

Something new for Thursday!

I made a simple page in my homemade art journal today. I finally made some time to color and play with a free image from the Simply Betty Stamps Facebook Group, Rio and Her Penguin. The SBS blog is HERE.

I am also sharing this in the Facebook group and with Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: Winter Stamping

Please click each image to see it bigger.

I colored her using Sharpies, Bic Mark Its and Infinity markers. The snowflakes are stamped and heat embossed in white. The blue green background is a mix of Distress Paints and stain.

I rotated the image to make it show the sparkle a bit more.

Snuggle up and stay warm!

"Smile"~Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenege #141 "Girly Stuff"

Tuesday's Treat!

Happy Day to you:)

Thanks for stopping by!

Today I have a small, well by definition ATCs are small! An ATC or Artist Trading Card is just that, a card meant to be traded, it is about the size of a baseball trading card. ATCs measure 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches. Such a fun size to play with. When your creative mojo goes on holiday, start small and just play. You might be surprised what you make:)

I made this ATC for the Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge. The theme this week is Girly Stuff and the fabulous sponsor is Vera Lane Studio. The images are so fun and cute. I finally was able to buy some to play and I am so happy I did! Over the weekend I made some cards for the APC Challenge and had fun coloring these digital images, you can see them HERE

Here is Tuesday's Treat, hope you enjoy it!

Click the image to make it bigger:)

The image is Vera Lane Studio, I hand colored it using Sharpies and Bic Mark It markers. The sentiment is a Tim Holtz Chit Chat sticker. The flowers I cut from a Time Holtz Tattered Florals die. I colored the petals with Distress Ink, Spiced Marmalade and Vintage Photo.

Thanks so much for looking!

Have a wonderful day!

Weeks 17 & 18 Altered Playing Card Challenge APCC

Happy Sunday!

Hope your weekend has been fun and relaxing:)

I used my spare time this weekend to catch up with Claudine's Altered Playing Card Challenge! Today was a quiet day and it worked out well to play with my playing cards.

I did week 17, you can see Claudine's prompt and walk-thru HERE.

I really loved stamping with distress ink onto a book page, then using a water brush to blur the line. Such a fun technique!

The book page stamp is Inkadinakado. The other quirky bird is Vera Lane Studio, I adore her images!

This photo is my week 18 pair. I followed Claudine's prompt as you can see HERE.

I did the background in the same manner, but instead of flowers I used more of the super cute Vera Lane Studio images :)

Please click the images to make them bigger:)

Enjoy the day!
Thanks for stopping by.

Left of Center DT New Challenge #61~OddBall Art~Animal Instinct

Happy Friday!

Another week is wrapping up and YAY! Saturday is almost here! To tide you over till Saturday rolls in, I am sharing the new challenge that starts today at Left Of Center. This is Challenge #61 and our theme is Animal Instinct, but remember, anything goes that is Left of Center, just have fun! We hope to see you there soon!

Come see all of the amazing DT projects created to inspire you this week! You can follow this link HERE if you like:)

I am so happy to have been given this wonderful image from Oddball Art to play with this week. It is called Big Eye Zombie Girl by Lizzy Love and you can buy it HERE. I really love this image! My take on Animal Instinct is no matter what, everyone needs a teddybear, even zombies. The basic instinct, protect.

Please click each image to see it bigger :)

I colored my zombie girl with Sharpies and Bic Mark It markers.  I printed two copies and fussy cut both. The underneath layer is all dark gray, I wanted a deeper shadow.

I used scrap cardboard for the substrate. I covered part of it with white gesso so the colors would stay bright. Once dry I started adding some tissue paper onto it with gel medium. Then I started adding random Distress Paints and acrylics. I sprayed the colors with water to mix and make it runny. I added some torn book pages also.

Once that was dry I used some stencils with texture paste I made. I let the first layer of paste dry then added another layer of stencilling with paste. I really like how the stencilling on stencilling effect came out!

Once the paste was dry(waited overnight) I started using Dylusions spray inks and some Lindy's Stamp Gang Spray. I misted with water and propped it up to drip.

I made the sentiment and layered it with a paper from Gecko Galz, love their stuff! I was so happy to have won some free papers and images over the last holidays. :)

Once all the sprays were dry, I used some Rub N Buff Antique Gold to add some shine, I like shiny things :)

Then I did some random stamping with Unity stamps and Jet Black Archival Ink.

Thanks so much for reading this far! I hope you have a minute to leave a comment, all your comments make my day!

Dead of Winter Smeared & Smudged Member Blog Hop~January 2015

Welcome to my stop along the Dead of Winter Blog Hop!

This fun hop is organized by the fantastic ladies at Smeared Ink! I have the blog roll posted on the left side bar and again at the bottom in case you get lost along the way.

I love blog hops! It is such a fun way to discover new blogs and find amazing and super talented artists. The Smeared Ink hops guarantee to show you an alternate view and maybe make you shiver....

This is Winter Chill. I used a digital stamp from Smeared Ink, Creepers-Misk. The snowflake overlay is a freebie by Jill Wellington, HERE.

Please click the images to make them bigger :)

I printed out Misk then colored him with my Bic Mark It pens.  Then I scanned the image and played in Photoshop Elements.

This is the full print that I made the "snap shot" from.

Keep warm and enjoy the Hop!

Mixed Media Mojo DT Inspiration~January Theme "New" Twist 15~Multi-Challenge Playtime

Happy Mid-Week!

Glad you found a moment to relax and enjoy for a moment today!

Well, last year went by so fast and this year is frightfully looking to be doing the same! We are a week in, WOW!

As promised back on the First of January, here is the full picture for my project for Mixed Media Mojo. Our New Years theme is New with a twist of 15. Have FUN and make of that what you will, we cannot wait to see your amazing projects! Link with us HERE.

This is my canvas, I hope you like it!

It is larger than I have worked before, it is still small at 11 inches by 14 inches. But bigger than I have done before. I wanted to create a sort of 2015 wish, to do board. Sometimes when I get stuck for an idea, I like simple reminders of things to play with or things I wanted to try. That was my goal for this project.

I made some hand stamped words using paper and a crackerbox.

Let me know what you think! I appreciate all of your comments and ideas! If you have any questions, just ask:)

Happy New Year!
~kim

There are lots of fun New theme challenges right now, so fun! I hope you take this time to discover all of these fabulous challenges and wonderful hosts! You will be so inspired and discover so much awesome art along the way!

APCC Week16~Altered Playing Card Challenge

HiHi!

This brings me to this week's Challenge for Week 16! Yay! Caught up!

This week was another super fun technique and you and see all the fun details HERE

Here is my set for Week 16.

The background is as fun and simple as can be, apply tissue to the background and scrunch it up!

I used some Tim Holtz Melange tissue I had on hand. Color the background using paint, I used some acrylic paint. Let it dry, then apply the tissue, I used some gloss medium. While the medium is wet just use your fingers to mush around the tissue and and wrinkles. As Claudine mentions, if you do not have any printed tissue, it is fine, just stamp onto plain tissue and make your own! I like to stamp onto tissue paper using archival inks, they do not run when the tissue gets wet.

These stamps are Newton's Nook and Tim Holtz.

The butterfly stamp is Tim Holtz. The moon is a scrap from another project using embossed foil tape. I really love this one with my improvised Moon and my favorite colors:)

Have a great evening and see you soon!
~kim

APCC Week 15~Altered Playing Card Challenge

Hello!

This is the next set of Altered Playing Cards, Week 15.

Almost caught up!

I used this week to catch up on my card pairs for the Altered Playing Card Challenge with the lovely hostess Claudine! You can see all the details HERE.

This week's theme was using embossing paste and ink sprays. I love these! The paste is such fun to play with and I adore the bright colors of spray ink!

I used a circle stencil by Plaid with my homemade texture paste. Once it dried I sprayed the card with Dylusions spray inks. Once I got the colors where I wanted them, I sprinkled some rock salt onto a few spots to get the fun extra texture and color spots.

This adorable owl is a digital stamp I won from a challenge with 2 Cute Ink, Owl Doodle. I love this cutie! I colored her with Bic Mark It pens and Sharpie Markers.

The stamps I used here are SandyLion, that I found at a dollar store. I love the scribble quality they have. The images are stamped with Archival Ink, Jet Black and Fern Green. The rest are Distress Ink,  Peacock Feathers, Wild Honey and Spiced Marmalade. The paper has a really nice bumpy texture which I think really added to the nice feel to the flowers. The sentiment is Dyan Reaveley another phrase I adore:)

I really love how both cards came out and they are both techniques I will be playing with more!

Have a great day!
~kim
