My Alice is on a canvas about 6 inches by 8 inches. She is colored with Sharpies and Bic Mark It markers.

"Tea Time?"

I wanted her to be bright and colorful to POP from the background. The background is a mash up of Distress Paints, acrylics and embossing powder on top of texture paste.

The roses are made from the Tim Holtz Tattered Pinecone die.

I had tons of fun coloring and making the background. I hope you like it! See you soon at Rosey Hearts for our very first challenge!

LOC #71~New Challenge~Mermaids/Water Theme~Left of Center Creative Challenges

Hi!

Today starts the newest challenge at Left of Center Creative Challenges! The optional theme this fortnight is Mermaids/Water...interpret it as you will! Just join us and play along, can't wait to see what you create!

Our wonderful sponsor is Spellbinding Stamps, Nikki Burnette. I was given the digital stamp, Edeline, to play with. You can get her here, HERE

And here is my DT inspiration piece. It is a 'canvas' about 6 inches by 8 inches.

Please click each picture to see a larger version.

I love this sweet image, it is wonderful fantasy but I would love it to be a True Story:) The inspiration to my canvas is the perfect Unity stamp, "True Story".

She is colored with a combination of Sharpies, Distress Ink and ballpoint pens. The background is a fun mixed media play almost as much fun to make as the image was to color. The substrate for the "canvas" is a piece of cardboard from a mailing box, mush too nice to toss :)

I used various acrylic paints, Distress Paints and some ink sprays. Once dry I used a stencil and applied texture paste. Before the paste dried I sprinkled embossing powder on top to give the shine. I let the paste dry overnight then heat embossed the powder.

I wanted to include the extra photo at another angle, I love how the colors change.

I hope you can join us at Left of Center this fortnight. The optional theme is Mermaids/Water. As always if that theme is just not quite for you, created what your heart desires. We welcome digital makes, goth, punk, dark, fantasy, grunge, Halloween and more. Let yourself have fun!

Have a great weekend and hope you can make time to play!

APCC Week 27~Finale~Altered Playing Card Challenge

Today I have my Altered Playing Card Challenge set, week 27!

It is the final week of the challenge which was to alter an entire deck of regular playing cards at the rate of one pair per week. and yes! I did each week!! So happy to have accomplished this and at the same time, sad to see it done.

Please visit our lovely hostess Claudine HERE to see all the wonderful details. There is a Facebook group and it will continue on and we will see what comes along!

Thanks so much for following along on this fabulous journey. It means so much, I appreciate each comment and view of these cards that are so fun to make! Giant enormous hugs and thanks to Claudine for putting all this together and providing inspiration each week!

Here we go, as always please click each image if you want to see a bigger version :)

The base is the regular playing card covered with gesso to make things 'stick'.

The background here is inked with Archival Ink, Fern Green. I stamped the Unity butterfly on a book page with Jet Black Archival and then fussy cut it. The background stamps are Tim Holtz and Prima, stamped with Distress Embossing Ink and embossed in black. After inking the background, it must be totally dry so the excess EP does not stick where it should not :) (thanks for that reminder Claudine)

The background here I inked with Archival Ink, Potting Soil. But...it was way too dark. I thought it might lighten up on the gesso but no hahaha. So the opposite half I inked with Distress Ink Wild Honey which turned out much more yummy. I love the highlight it created. The background is stamped with a Unity postage/stamps stamp. The smaller images are Heidi Swapp. I free hand cut the heart.

The black smudge around the images I created by using a waterbrush and a General's watersoluble graphite pencil. (Micheal's craft store $3 for 2 pencils) I love the moody feel these pencils make.

Thanks so much for visiting today!

Have a wonderful week!

APCC Week 26~Monochrome~Altered Playing Card Challenge

Hello, Happy Sunday!

Today was a fun play day, had a bit of time to make my week 26 altered playing card pair. And I am caught up, yay! Tomorrow brings the last week of the challenge to alter an entire deck of playing cards~none too soon, the following is Spring Break and it is sure to be crazy!

You can see this wonderful challenge hosted by Claudine HERE and there is also a Facebook Group that will carry on. This has been such a fun wonderful journey! Along which I have learned so many techniques that I probably would never have tried before!

This week's theme is Monochrome. It was a challenge for me, I have never played in monochrome much before.

Please click each picture if you would like to see it bigger:)

I used the whimsical birds from Vera Lane Studios, you can see her Etsy shop, HERE

I used some patterned paper over each card. I picked colors that I knew I had similar inks and paints to carry on in the monochrome.

I dabbed acrylic paint through a stencil on each card using a make up triangle sponge.

The sentiment stickers are Tim Holtz Chit Chat, love these! I added a little pen scribble with a Gelly Roll pen and PITT pen.

This was another really fun play and will attempt monochrome again.

Thanks for reading!!

Have a happy week!

DominoArt~Harlequin Altered Playing Card

There is a super fun challenge blog that features altering your favorite game pieces! Each month the lovely hostess, Leigh, has a new challenge. The March theme is to incorporate the harlequin diamond pattern somehow with your altered game piece.

Please take a bit to hop over and share and support this wonderful alternative challenge blog, you will be pleasantly surprised! You can hop with this link, HERE

I love the Tim Holtz Harlequin stencil and embossing folder. I still need the stamp to complete my trio! So when I saw this challenge it was too fun to pass up! Plus,,,as I am sure you know I love altered playing cards! yay!

Please click to see a bigger photo:)

I embossed a piece of manila folder with the Tim harlequin folder. I inked the folder with Black Soot Distress Ink then passed it through the machine. Once dry, I stamped it using Potting Soil Archival and a Unity Chicken Wire stamp.

I die cut the fleur de lis from the manila folder. I stamped a separate fleur de lis from the same Tim set and heat embossed it.

The red flower is die cut and inked with Festive Berry Distress Ink.

This is the backside of the card. It is a deck actually used in a Casino, that is why the corners are clipped. I found this deck at a dollar store.

Have a wonderful day! Hope you have time to stop by and say Hi to Leigh!

Challenge #69 Left of Center Creative Challenges~Good Luck or Bad~Roll the Dice...

So how lucky do you feel today? After all it is Friday the 13th....

This is my DT make for Left of Center Creative Challenges. I do like the dark side play as you most likely know :)

                                                              Visit LOC HERE

It is a great day for the newest Creative Challenge at Left of Center: Good Luck or Bad. As always at Left of Center you are welcome to follow the suggested theme or if that does not strike your fancy, you are most welcome to play towards the dark side. We would love to see what you make!

For my project I used an image by Rick St. Dennis from the Voodoo Digital stamp set at Smeared Ink, you can find it HERE

Please click each photo to see them bigger:)

The "canvas" is cardboard. So fun and easy to play with! It is about 8 inches by 8 inches.

The background started with some gesso then I added some texture paste through a stencil. It kinda went crazy and got gloppy. Is gloppy a word??? Dunno...anyways, it looked weird so I added some Dylusions spray inks and water once the paste was dry.

On top of that I added some crackle paste. Once set and dry I finished off with some Lindy's Stamp Gang spray. I love this spray, it is one of two colors I own, it sprays on purple and dries with the awesome blue sparkle. :)

I trimmed the awesome RSD image and mounted it on black cardstock. I layered it on top of the "window". The background of the "window" I had fun embossing! I did paper dry embossing and inked the embossing folder itself then ran it though to get the pattern and thennnn stay with me, clear embossed the diamonds/harlequin for more sparkle and shine.

I hope you have time to play and really look forward to seeing your wonderfully creative fun at Left of Center!

~hugs~

APCC Week 25~Altered Playing Card Challenge

Another Two for Tuesday!

Today I have my week 25 card pair done! The time is going quick as is this year, just WOW

You can see and join the fun HERE at Claudine's blog. We are on week 25 of this 26 week project and I cannot believe it has gone so fast! If you want to play along, it is totally fine! There is a Facebook group that we post in and it will carry on, so everyone is welcome to join up anytime.

This week's prompt is using glossy paper and re-inkers. The effect is so beautiful and I urge you to hop over to Claudine's blog to see the results on her lovely post, HERE.

Please click each image to see them bigger, thanks!

I do not have glossy paper and the only re-inker I have is Jet Black Archival. I wanted bright colors and more than just one :)   So adapting to what I have on hand, I used rubbing alcohol 91% and some alcohol inks.

I dropped the ink onto my craft mat and added some rubbing alcohol. I had some cards covered with gesso and I sprayed some rubbing alcohol on them. Take care to not inhale the rubbing alcohol mist.

Then I pressed the gesso'd cards into the color puddles and set aside, propped up a bit to make the ink run. I sprayed a bit more alcohol on them.

I am very happy with the soft blooms of color!

I used Vera Lane Studio digital stamps on both cards. I love her images, they are so fun and fun to color. I got kinda color crazy with them :)

I used a star stencil and Distress Paint on the background. I outlined and doodled with my white gelly roll pen.

On this card I used a dot stencil and Archival Ink for the dots. The sentiment is a small Heidi Swapp stamp.

Both digi stamps are colored with Bics and Sharpies.

Thanks so much for visiting and I hope you have a great day!

~hugs~

Design Team Call & New Challenge~Mixed Media Mojo~March 2015

Welcome to a new month!

Sure hoping this March leads to a creative and warmer Spring for everyone!

Ready to get away a bit and play this day? Sure hope so!

Click HERE to pop over to the link up page.

At Mixed Media Mojo we have lots of fun things in store for your this month. First up we are holding a Design Team Call until mid-month. If you love to get inky, painty and used all sorts of materials in a fun, creative way, why not apply to our call? We'd love to have you link up, just pick a project you are really proud of to share with us. There is a link up on this PAGE at Mixed Media Mojo. Hope to see you soon!

And now if the super fun part, a new challenge!

Now is your chance to play with making an ATC! The theme is Anything Goes, the twist is 2. YOu can interpret the set of 2 any way you wish!

In case you are not sure, an ATC is an Artist Trading Card. It is a fun way to trade art among friends or anyone. An ATC is never sold. If you want to make ones to sell, then call it an ACEO, or Art Card, Editions & Originals. Both measure 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches. For our challenge you need to keep the base to size but you are allowed to have the embellies of the sides/tops.

Please click the images to see them bigger :)

For my 2, I went literally and made two ATCs. I love playing in this size!

For both ATCs, the base is covered with rows of washi tape. This is done the same way as the technique I learned from Claudine in the Altered Playing Card Challenge. You can visit Claudine to see her how-to, HERE and see my APCs HERE

I cut a second piece of manila folder and used a Sizzix mini mover heart die to cut the shape. The small heart trail is a thin metal die by Simon Says Stamp.

I inked the Holtz Harlequin embossing folder then placed the die cut card inside and embossed it. I used Dusty Concord Distress Ink. Once dry I used a Unity background stamp, Chicken Wire with Potted Soil Archival Ink, for the mesh design.

This one I used another of my favorote Holtz stamps. I cut it apart and clear embossed the three gentlemen. I used pop dots to get a bit more depth. I used alcohol ink on the star to give it color.

I really hope you like this pair and that it inspires you to try an ATC if you have not done so before!

Can't wait to see what you make this month. See you soon!

~hugs~
